Bill Bone bought the Indian Wells acreage in 1984 and then waited. He had already built a desert's worth of clubs. He did not want another one that would look dated the year it opened. Ground broke in 2003 on roughly 640 acres between Cook Street, Eldorado Drive, Hovley Lane East, and Fred Waring Drive. Toscana Country Club is the private equity community that followed: two Jack Nicklaus Signature courses woven through 631 homes and estate homesites, and a Club Villa that Sunrise staged like an Italian hill town rather than a rec building in a parking lot.
Nicklaus gave the club two eighteen-hole characters. The South Course uses elevation, rolling greens, and a lush plant palette. The North Course works desert arroyos and indigenous vegetation into the play. The club's 2025-2026 brochure caps Equity Golf at 275 members on each course, 550 in all, and states that tee times are not required for golf members. Instruction sits at the Bill Harmon Performance Center beside the Golf Shop and locker rooms. That walk-on culture is the golf argument against larger resort campuses down-valley, where tee sheets and visitor traffic are part of the business model.
Villa Toscana handles events. Il Forno Trattoria, La Cucina, and Il Caffe cover the day's meals. Spa Bella Vita and the Sports Club, with fitness studios, a Junior Olympic resort pool, and four bocce courts, keep non-golf days on property. The Charlie Pasarell Tennis Center, named for the member who put the Indian Wells tournament on the world map, includes a stadium court, additional tournament courts, and ten dedicated pickleball courts. Twenty-four-hour gated security and roving patrols close the residential streets. Friendships made inside the gates are the sentence members repeat. The architecture is the sentence visitors remember.
Owning a Toscana home or homesite does not create Club membership. The Membership Committee still has to approve you, and initiation still has to be paid. For the 2025-2026 season the club publishes Resident Equity Golf initiation at $180,000 with monthly dues of $3,720, and Resident Equity Sports Club and Spa initiation at $120,000 with monthly dues of $1,590 (limit 175). Sports and Spa members use Club facilities except the golf courses and practice areas. All dues, fees, and charges are subject to change. Toscana is a resale market now, not a pioneer tract. Residences run from attached product to estate homesites inside the gates. The published brochure frames the community around those 631 homes and sites rather than a long list of named collections. Onsite home sales lists 76001 Via Club Villa, Indian Wells, CA 92210. El Paseo is minutes away. Palm Springs International Airport is an easy drive. Compare Toscana to Vintage and Eldorado on membership structure and to Indian Ridge on Sunrise DNA.
